Banking Safely in a Digital World

Free community workshops in Mackay, Sarina and Townsville

Online and mobile banking can make it easier to manage your money, pay bills and stay on top of everyday expenses. However, changing technology and increasingly convincing scams can also leave people feeling uncertain about whether a message, phone call or online request is genuine.

Council on the Ageing Queensland is inviting older Queenslanders, family members, carers and other community members to attend a free Banking Safely in a Digital World workshop in Slade Point, Sarina or Townsville.

The friendly, practical sessions will help you feel more confident using online and mobile banking, recognising common scams and protecting your personal and financial information.

What will the workshop cover?

During the workshop, you will learn about:

  • common and emerging scam tactics targeting Australians
  • warning signs that something may not be genuine
  • simple ways to protect your personal and banking information
  • safer online and mobile banking practices
  • what to do when a message, call or transaction does not feel right
  • where to find trusted help and support.

You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and work through real-life examples in a supportive and welcoming environment.

You do not need to be highly experienced with technology or online banking to attend. The workshop is designed to provide clear, useful information that you can apply in everyday life.
