Peer Education Program

COTA Queensland’s award winning Peer Education program is a training model that supports volunteer, fully trained Peer Educators (usually older people themselves) to deliver information workshops to their peers. Simply put, it is education for older people by older people.

Peer Educators are adept at leading a discussion, communicating clearly and encouraging participation so that attendees can learn from each other while building on their own ideas and experiences. Based on adult and community learning principles, the program is group based, challenging and fun and enables participants to develop practical communication skills and self-confidence.

The sessions are offered free of charge and usually last between 45-60 minutes. The topics provide information that is accurate, independent and relevant to the needs of older Queenslanders and currently include:
